چکیده

We focus on investor-state dispute settlement provisions contained in various, though far from all, bilateral investment treaties as a possible determinant of BIT-related effects on bilateral FDI flows. Our estimation results prove to be sensitive to the specification of these provisions as well as the inclusion of transition countries in the sample. Stricter dispute settlement provisions do not necessarily result in higher FDI inflows so that the effectiveness of BITs as a credible commitment device remains elusive. JEL code: F21, F23, K33

Do Trade and Investment Agreements Lead to More FDI? Accounting for Key Provisions Inside the Black Box

The previous literature provides a highly ambiguous picture on the impact of trade and investment agreements on FDI. Most empirical studies ignore the actual content of BITs and RTAs, treating them as "black boxes", despite the diversity of investment provisions constituting the essence of these agreements. We overcome this serious limitation by analyzing the impact of modalities on the admissi...

FDI Promotion through Bilateral Investment Treaties: More Than a Bit?

Policymakers in developing countries have increasingly pinned their hopes on bilateral investment treaties (BITs) in order to improve their chances in the worldwide competition for foreign direct investment (FDI). However, the effectiveness of BITs in inducing higher FDI inflows is still open to debate. It is in several ways that we attempt to clarify the inconclusive empirical findings of earl...

The Economics of Network Neutrality Are “ prophylactic ” remedies to nonproblems needed ?

| Winter 2011-2012 S ince “network neutrality” first appeared in policy debates, its meaning has been less than crystal clear. Some advocates have argued that net neutrality demands that broadband Internet service providers (ISPs) treat all bits equally: “a bit is a bit is a bit,” while others make exceptions for malware bits, spam bits, child pornography bits, etc. Some advocates have argued t...

Very Small Size ka Band 6 Bit DMTL Phase Shifter Based on Combination of Capacitor and Resonator Type Methods

Abstract- Design and simulation of a very small size 6-bit DMTL phase shifter is presented. The idea is based on using both capacitor and resonator type methods simultaneously in a phase shifter. The capacitor section creates less significant bits. The bits in this section start from the least significant bit, with 5.625-degree steps. The resonator section creates the bits with 90-degree steps....

Improved key-reconciliation method

In [1], Peikert proposed efficient and practical lattice-based protocols for key transport, encryption and authenticated key exchange. One of the main technical innovations of [1] is a reconciliation technique that allows two parties who ”approximately agree” on a secret value to reach exact agreement, a setting common to essentially all lattice-based encryption schemes. In [1], this reconcilia...
